Lake Baikal is well – know today to millions people of the planet. There is no other lake on the sacred Baikal poetized in legends and songs. Whence, from what people the name of lake has come, it has been arguing until now. Many folks has resided on the lakeside of Baikal in bygone days, having called it “Lamu”, i.e. Sea, Chinese – “Bei — Khai” (Northern sea), Mongols – “Baigal”  (Plenty of fire). The archeological dig have allowed to establish, that in Bronze Age this zone was inhabited by Turkic people – the mysterious Kurykans. Probably, they were first to have called a lake Baikal, that “the Rich lake” signifies.

Ангара=Baikal Angara: Альбом. – 157 с.

Baikal is said to have been cheerful and kind before its daughter the Angara river ran away to its fiance the Yenisei. Baikal had intended to merry it to the mighty bogatyr Irkut river, that is why Baikal became furious and broke off the Shaman-rock from a grey mountain and then threw it after its running daughter. Its neck, was pressed by the rock and the self – willed beauty being lifeless from thirst asked that the father should give it at least a drop of water. “I can give you only my teardrops”, – the father answered. Ever since the Angara’s flowing is tears – like, and Baikal keeps bending its brows heavily.

The scientists have been studying the Baikal for three hundred years/ In 1993 the Baikal Museum of the Irkutsk Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISC SB RAS) was opened on its shore just near the source of the Angara River to integrate all known materials on the Baikal collection, study of the lake ecosystem development during geological evolutions, and monitoring of waterside and sub-aqueous landscapes all do not contribute to the compendium of the problems solved by the museum researches. The museum expositions show the life of the unique lake, and the Baikal fish, crustaceans, sponges and even seals live in demonstration aquariums.

Baikal is moody and unpredictable. Here he is imposing, surgeless, the sky is allowed to take bathe in. But the sudden appearance of some cloud or chill breeze provokes lake mirror to become fretted like goose-bumps.

Baikal is getting dark, the brows are bended, as if there never have happened any calm. These changes of heart allow everybody to find in Baikal something consonant to oneself, intrapersonal, and to dialogue with the lake in private.

One can draw an analogy between Baikal and some creation of great painter who had neither grudged colours for the canvas nor strength of his heart.

The morning has come. Everything is colourless and illusory. The mirror sutfece invites by its infinity, it has an aura of peace and silence. It is just like a water-colour drawing: on a crystal water the solar dazzles shimmer, interblend with each other and smash to pieces.
